Matching your frame color with your skin tone

color frames for skin tone

Deciding on your next eyewear can be tough, but have you ever considered narrowing it down by matching your frame color with your skin tone?

You’re at your local EO Branch, eyes checked and graded, but there’s one last thing that you need to do–choose your frame. With lines of design options to consider, trying to settle on one frame can be overwhelming. To resolve that dilemma, we’ve created a guide on selecting frames that complement your skin tone.

Getting to know the basics

You can assess your color using the 4-season analysis, which Carole Jackson introduced in a 1987 book called Color Me Beautiful. The four seasons help designate people according to the natural colors of their features, offering a concept of depth and undertones.

Here are the four seasonal hues and the colors that work with them:

Spring is reminiscent of lightness and warmth, inviting you to appreciate blooming flowers and abundant sunlight. Spring-toned individuals have warm-toned skin and a lighter shade of hair and eyes.

Spring Colors: Coral, peach, light gold, warm turquoise, and soft greens

When we think of summer, we imagine beach waves and the refreshing blue of lakes and waterfalls. Those with a summer tone often wear their hair in a lighter shade of brown or black, lightly contrasted by their cool-toned skin.

Summer Colors: Pastels

Autumn, on the other hand, is the time of amber fallen leaves, cozy coffees, and pumpkin carvings. Earthy colors, similar to sun-kissed skin, and deeper shades of hair and eyes, characterize this season.

Autumn Colors: Earthy hues; mustard, rust, olive, and burnt orange

Lastly, it is the season with the highest contrast tones, winter. Cooler skin tones, in contrast with rich, dark hair and eyes, characterize it.

Winter Colors: High-contrast, cool colors; Black, navy, true white, and jewel tones such as emerald and royal blue

A perfect pair for every seasonal undertone

By understanding the four seasonal tones, you can finally determine what kind of undertone you have and which color of frames would best represent your skin. You can use this as a basis for choosing the correct specs that can make both your eyes and natural features stand out.
